News stored on 31.10.2002 - Witch Special: Elyon
TN_cover_witch-sp03.JPG (2277 byte)Usually Witch specials made a sad show of themselves. ELYON - Return of a queen (story by Artibani, drawings by Gula/Panniello/Perissinotto supervised by Campinoti) is a commendable exception! In fact this is surely the most hit special published until now.
This 3,60 Euro magazine (a bit too much for 66 pages, but it worths them) lets us take a look at Meridian, showing Elyon's new life there and all the troubles she has to fit her queen status. Understood she can't rule a world that she doesn't know, Elyon leaves her crown and takes the tour to see the Metaworld with her bare eyes. Of course that puts her in some troubles, but there's Vathek (under stricht diet) to land her a hand.
Drawings are not that great (damn, again those reading sense errors! Always when Campinoti is around!), but by the way this special is very enjoyable for various reasons: first it shows Elyon's personal point of view, so personal and spontaneous, even real-like in Artibani's texts, who captures the protagonist in all her humanity, with her strenght and weaknesses. Then it defines better the whole conformation of the Metaworld, its story, its inhabitants, until now all was left to the readers' fantasy. Now we find out that the royal family is called the Escanor, is humankin and comes from Earth, while the natives Galhot made up the population. Last but most important, this special is incredibly fun. Elyon's secret diary is wonderful and made very well in its spontaneity, laughing all the superdeformed drawings, and also so many details about Meridian seen throught Elyon's fantasy... it really seemed to read her diary and I found myself smiling discovering all the ups and downs of a teenager girl that suddenly has to be a queen without all the things that a teenager likes. At this time the articles were really genial, much better than the usual useless make-up or quiz stuff.
We'll give it a great mark, most for the originality and the great care shown by the redaction in the making!

News stored on 30.10.2002 - Claretta dixit
Flames again inside the pk-community against the new PK series. To make the rage blow up again was an article you can find at http://www.ragazzinet.it/numero_026/Attualità/paperinik/paperinik.html; in it Claretta Muci, interviewed, recklessly admits that PK's target was lowered aiming to send adult readers out of the magazine, and that they knew perfectly before the restyling that there was that kind of readers.

We just can't believe to the nonsense of this whole operation: now we can't talk but of free cruelty, or maybe egoism, megalomany? How should we take such statements? It is now sure that a part of readers was deliberately ignored and insulted, and we can't help being very angry for such a treatment to those who supperted the magazine since the very beginnings. In other words, that demonstrates we were right... but, do read the article for yourself and decide! Here is the translation of the passage:

“Paperinik and PK are the anti-heroes we all have inside", says Claretta Muci, director of "Topolino" and "PK". "These characters let us understand that we all can do super actions, even if we feel a bit self-unconfident. And then, there is the secret identity. Isn't it cool to dream you can be two different persons in the same life?".
Over the last times, "PK" had become a magazine read most by grown-up readers. "Now, we want to reach the children of elementar and medium school, to let a character so beloved and positive be known", goes on Claretta.

News stored on 26.10.2002 - PK# 004 - Alarm

"If danger is close, here comes the masked duck!"

TN_cover_pk-004.JPG (2742 byte)Great returns on PK! ALLARME (Alarm) has two great revenants back from PKNA, the legendary Max Monteduro coloring the cover (and, you can really see that!) and the unforgotten Stefano Intini, working on the 48-plates story.
Sorry for the enthusiasm and let's restore some order. We chose this quoting to open the editorial because it's the typical elementar smart child's sentence, nonetheless one of the Pkteam's contest winners. It's good to see that tomorrow's scriptwriters have the same fantasy of the present ones. :>
Leaving that, it's to be pointed out that this one sounds a strange issue for various reasons. The short story this time comes first and also got the cover, possibly for the simple matter that the second one's title, Days of a present past, simply did not fit. About Alarm (by Cordara/Rigano) there isn't much to say, it appeared already in preview on the Corriere's website and everybody said it was a kind of bullshit. We add big, after noticing a good deal of incongruences and naivenesses that previously exceeded our attention and we don't say for brevity, or even mercy - as you prefer. Maybe it's just enough to say that we look to have gotten stuck inside PKNA Special 2000, that one full of ridiculous supervillains that Pk had to fight for profession; but with the difference that that one was a parody, while now according to Pkteam these should be taken as real adventures.
The long story by Cordara/Ambrosio/Intini instead is readable at least. Great is the return of the Pi-kar, it really seems we got angry for nothing. For the rest there's nothing special about the plot, it's just the usual big mean monster trying to destroy something, in this case the whole planet's gold reserves; that because in the vision of Vulnus Vendor, his anarchist creator, that would set the world free by the evil represented by money. Intini's drawings themselves look almost unrecognizable: although he shows charisma, his style appears more poor and simplified, most in the inks... but perhaps it's just a wrong impression given by the coloration, different from the moody one in PKNA. So, why is this story interesting? Because the authors seemed to be trying, VEEEEERY remotely, to skim over the theme of globalization - and that's strange in a comic-book that since a while has shown itself almost without contents. About such topic I wrote down a long analysis in Pkeri that popped up in a talking about politics, too long for now: in short, we were observing that Pk does not evaluates Vendor's statements and doesn't find a moral answer to the fact that money much more and evil than a good to many people (and that's true!), maybe because he himself is son of the american culture, built up on the very concept of capitalism. The feeling is the one of a good idea thrown up to the wind, but maybe in this PK that's the best we can hope for.
We point out that we were forced to lower down the marks scale, to better fit it to the new setting and avoid killing every issue. From now on you have to leave -2 from the mark to compare it to the previous series.

News stored on 24.10.2002 - Colorations special
A special fanart update, all about computer-colored drawings... and we assure that some of them are quite the spectacular!

news_traumase4color.jpg (3036 byte)The big guy in the show is a Photoshop coloration by Morpheu5 of Trauma Superevronian 4 (by Silver/Assirelli): the only sentence that seems able to describe it is, "Power and Strenght!". The elaboration required a long work, but the end result seems worthy... what do you think? Please be warned, it's a little heavy to download to keep the quality level the highest possible.

news_stefancornicionecolor.jpg (2702 byte)The rest of menu is impressive too. In Rita Micozzi Gallery #6 you'll find three colorations, one Stefan Vladuck's in Reportage and two different versions of Lyla with the two guns. Also in Matteo Vattani Gallery #2 there are five new images as well. Everything is by the usual colorists: Morpheu5, Essekappa and Matteo Vattani himself.

Moreover, a new load of Winamp skins (13), this time about PK, all by Loredana Di Mauro (and, one Silverware's on Trauma SE4). There are also the official PKERS' skins!

We take this chance to announce that something BIG is happening behind PKERS... get ready for an amazing surprise. We'll tell nothing more for now, you'll be informed next week, but it's something no other PK-site could ever do!
Ad majora...

News stored on 15.10.2002 - www.chiepk.it
Brand new Flash site of Who is PK is online: head to www.chiepk.it to check it out (italian only)!

It is to be pointed out that they put some of the best PKNA old covers as downladable wallpapers... we don't know either if it's nice to see that they didn't completely forget about the existence of something before Pk became a Guardian of the Galaxy or there should be a bit of shame that the PKNA logo and the corner mark were taken away to leave space for Ubisoft and Disney Interactive logos... what's that, an attempt of "informatic revisionism"? ;P They could at least have put, for new game users, that those are not just wallpapers developed for the videogame site but original covers from the previous comic-book...

If you can't access the site, don't worry and try again later: it seems to shift up very frequently from online to offline.

News stored on 9.10.2002 - Witch #19 - The other side of truth
This month's first decade was fully colonized by Witch! But, wasn't this one a PK site? Don't worry, the rest of the month should be devoted completely to our beloved Guardian of the Galaxy...

"I already checked the compassion of those clowns on my own skin!"

TN_cover_witch-19.JPG (2698 byte)L'ALTRA VERITA' (The Other Side of Truth, by Bruno Enna/Manuela Razzi) is an interesting issue under different points of view. Many secrets are revealed: we are officially introduced to the previous group of Guardians and we discover the truth behind the death of Cassidy, brutally murdered by Nerissa when the Oracle took away the Heart of Kandrakar from her to give it to the former Witch. Now the Oracle doesn't look anymore the holy pure man he always pretended to be, in fact when Kadma and Halinor accused him of causing Cassidy's death, saying he knew that such a tragedy could happen, he literally esiliated them from Kandrakar; while Yan Lin, old company-minded fox that in this issue really looks like a penguin, kept herself more neutral and mantained her place in Heaven. An edifying good example of how you can get divine punishment over you as soon as you try to stop slithering to your boss' feet. A cue that would offer the chance for discussing deeper questions, but it's better to leave it for now. Kadma reveals too that Will was watched over by the foundation raised by herself and Halinor when they were dismissed, that now she directs alone after Halinor passed away too (how many people dying in this Disney book! O_o). While Witches are facing all this, Caleb gets a nice walk in the regenerative limbo of Obliminose (!!!!) trying to restore his vital energy that was taken away by Nerissa. Shall he live? Shalle he die? Shall we know? Upon every two or three issues his life's in danger... are the scriptwriters going to let him do something but staying eternally in reviving room? I'd just wish to spend a last note about the in-dream sequence: the fight with Nerissa seems to take us back to the old times of Barbucci's hallucinating nightmares, and I really did like it... the idea for its sake was abused since the first Nightmare movies, but in the present case it was made very well, I almost got scared when Cornelia's doll turns into Nerissa.
About Razzi's drawings, I found them good as usual, but maybe I expected from her a bit more personal cut. Actually there was, but in the ugly disposition of layouts. Under the strikes of her pencil the reading sense falls on the ground bleeding... too often I found very hard to understand the correct sequence of vignettes. At last, this story's cover is not too much of original and one of the inside pin-ups is gone.
We wait for Elyon's special and the official Witch Yahoo Group (nothing about PK, as usual...)
PKERS's rating: 7,5/10

As every month see also the great Cheyenne editorial on Kandrakar.it.

Moreover, there are a couple of new reviews on Who is PK, one scanned and one link.

News stored on 7.10.2002 - Witch, the animated series!
A new great scoop by PKERS! Right in the last days we discovered (thanks to a news by Mustafà) that SIP Animation, a french animation house, is developing a WITCH animated series. The news is kept top secret in Disney, but if you follow this link http://www.sabanparis.com/flash/eng/prod-03.html you'll find a tiny preview with the ultimate confirmation. The same animation studio made the series of Diabolik and Sissi, just to cite the best works.

Leaving apart the obvious excitement of such a news, we are asking why ever Disney, a so famous animation house making tons of movies and animated series every year, ended up committing the development of a series from a best seller like Witch to a not-quite-so-popular french animation studio. But, by the way, it's evident how new-Disney comics are landing for the first time to an exciting multimedial production effort. May it be a signal that times are changing and we're going towards a greater autonomy of european section from american Disney Studios? Who knows. We were just asking how would be a PK or Witch-based japanese anime. It would be already enough not to find ourselves in front of PK piloting The Great Mazinger...

News stored on 2.10.2002 - Gargantuan-sized Witch Special
Dear friends, PKERS presents the biggest Witch special EVER published by any website! No one ever uploaded so much stuff at once!

The menu is quite rich and there's a bit of everything.
You'll be damn happy for getting this kiss as soon as you'll see the whole pic! ;)As always, the very best pieces are fan arts: for the occasion we introduce a new young artist, Laura Micozzi (13 years), who loves drawing Witch and can do it pretty well. Of course you'll feel familiar with the name: in fact Laura is Rita Micozzi's minor sister, but it's evident that she has enough talent to walk on her own legs!
A pastel-coloured WillYou can take a look at her works, even 17, in the two galleries we devoted to her. How would you define these images? Cool? Sure! Fun? Too! ... A bit sensuous? When on this Earth Witch wasn't it! But above all you have to know one thing: Silver was not ever involved in the making of these drawings, not even in the one of Hay Lin's upskirt!!! ^__^

And for the series "that's the most pure-in-heart site of the whole new-Disney web", we shall amaze thee with an exclusive feature: the first (and actually UNIQUES) three WITCH HENTAI drawings! Yes, if you've been whishing so long to see Will's intimate parts, Bluesonic makes you finally happy! But, beware: it's not stuff for the elementar's smart children... you'll find these images in Pk-xxx, strictly (uhm...) forbidden to minors. And, for your wonder, Silver is innocent this time too...

Wallpapers sectionThe rest of new Pktreations is more chaste: in the section MM & Witch are waiting for you 5 new-shining wallpapers, more two short fan fictions (italian only): Quel Pomeriggio and La Scelta di Will. And all of that was made by only one man, Paulo Mauro Noé! Seems unbelievable... ;)
But it's no over yet: while browsing the Internet or playing don't you like to hear music with Winamp? And so, wouldn't you like to dress is up with some nice Witch skin? Well, thanks to Loredana di Mauro you can download 16 brand-new skins from our Files section, just restructured for a better organization. Click here.

And if that's still not enough, in the Special section we added a long interview (italian only, for now) to Alessandro Barbucci and Barbara Canepa, courtesy of a French site only for PKERS and Eclypse Neo for italian edition. The interview talks about some backstage facts of Witch's birth, the bad behaviour according to the authors of Disney towards their rights, and examines the evolution of their popular Skydoll, more some future projects of the great duo. You can find the link to the french version inside.

One last thing: for those people not reading AfNews, this are the selling data (great) of Witch in the last year, from june 2001 to july 2002. Source: ADS (Accertamento Diffusione Stampa), (C) AfNews.
